About Freely Given

Our family of seven is called to serve as full-time missionaries and build a team of volunteers in the small, southeast Asian country of Cambodia. In this land of palm trees, rice paddies, and water buffalo, 98% of the population is Buddhist. The spiritual, economic, and medical needs are vast, making the words of Jesus keenly felt; “Freely you have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:8) We are truly honored to serve the Lord among the warm-hearted and joyful people of Cambodia. Following are several ministries the Lord has opened up during our first year on the mission field!

We regularly host a variety of short-term mission trips!

Medical Ministry

Quality medical care remains a significant need in Cambodia, and a large portion of the population cannot afford even basic medical care. Several Catholic churches work to meet this need with free clinics, but this service is not available within several hours of our home, Siem Reap. Therefore, we are working with local priests to host monthly clinics at rural parishes. In this setting, we not only provide free medical care and free medication, but simultaneously draw unreached people to the church. Another avenue of medical care we are developing is providing routine check-ups for children at our church and local schools. This fills an important healthcare gap, as well-child exams are rarely done in Cambodia.

English Classes

Many young Cambodians strive to learn English as a means to broaden their future employment options. This can be particularly life-changing when a child’s family cannot afford secondary education. Over the last year, both Riah (our gap year student) and Sabrina (our homeschool teacher) have worked to meet this need. Riah started an English class at the rural parish of St. Mary’s in Taom, with up to 50 students in attendance! Sabrina began teaching preschool English at a local orphanage. The students absolutely love the classes and revel in the attention and care that is poured on them through these activities.

Rose Ministry

There is, sadly, a large industry for prostitution in Cambodia. We have started a small ministry to bless women in this walk of life and show them the love of Christ. We simply present each woman with a rose with an attached a message. It is a small gift to let them know they are valued and tell them of God’s personal love. We do our rose ministry once a month, and will slowly build upon the messages to present the Gospel story. As our language skills improve, we are getting to know these beautiful young ladies a little more each time we meet.
